South Carolina’s homebuilders and contractors are at a crossroads. We can either stand up and fight for a fair, competitive, and thriving housing industry—or allow outdated liability laws, excessive regulations, and workforce shortages to hold us back. That’s why our 2025 legislative agenda is laser-focused on reforms that will protect our businesses, strengthen our workforce, and make homeownership more attainable for every South Carolinian.
S. 244 is our top priority because unfair liability laws are bleeding our industry dry—forcing builders and contractors to foot the bill for damages they didn’t even cause! We are demanding fairness, accountability, and legal certainty to put South Carolina on equal footing with neighboring states. But liability reform is just the start. We’re also tackling housing affordability, workforce development, and common-sense permitting reforms to cut through red tape and get homes built faster and more affordably.
The time to act is NOW. We need every member of our association engaged—meeting with legislators, testifying at hearings, and ensuring our voices are louder than the trial lawyers and bureaucrats who want to keep the status quo. Together, we will protect our businesses, strengthen our communities, and build a better South Carolina.
Join us on February 20 as Mark Nix, Executive Director of the HBA of SC, provides a roadmap to accomplish our goals and outlines the strategy to secure real reforms that will impact our industry for years to come. We need your voice, your support, and your action—let’s get it done!
